Samsung unveils Galaxy Watch8 with Gemini AI, antioxidant-level monitoring

Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Watch8 series, including the Galaxy Watch8, Galaxy Watch8 Classic, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra, in a move set to redefine what a smartwatch can do for your health and lifestyle.

Packed with AI innovation, precision health sensors, and a sleek, ultra-comfortable design, the new lineup is also the first smartwatch series to ship with Google’s Gemini AI assistant and includes an industry-first feature, the ability to measure your body’s antioxidant levels in just seconds.

AI-powered wellness: Meet Gemini on your wrist

In a landmark collaboration with Google, the Galaxy Watch8 series becomes the first wearable to launch with Gemini, Google’s advanced AI assistant, running on the newly upgraded Wear OS 6 platform.

“By combining purposeful design with advanced sensor technology and an intuitive AI-powered experience, the Galaxy Watch8 series serves as a starting point for a healthier, more connected life,” said TM Roh, President and Acting Head of Samsung’s DX Division.

With Gemini, users can issue natural voice commands to launch workouts, send messages, check the calendar, or even find a nearby cafe and hotels, all hands-free. It integrates directly with Samsung Health and other native apps, enabling smoother multitasking and deeper interaction.

Smarter health tools: From running to recovery

Samsung’s new BioActive Sensor has been upgraded for greater depth and accuracy, offering insights across sleep, stress, activity, and now, an antioxidant measuring feature, which users can measure with the tap of a finger on the sensor.

The antioxidant index measures carotenoid levels (antioxidants) in just 5 seconds to support healthy ageing. Carotenoid levels serve as a biomarker for antioxidant status and overall nutritional health, suggesting whether one has a diet that supports strong antioxidant defences and potentially lower inflammation, or poor dietary habits with increased oxidative stress and inflammation in the body.

A bedtime guidance: Uses your circadian rhythm to recommend the best time to sleep for optimised recovery. The wearables can also identify moderate to severe signs of sleep apnea.

Also, the vascular load feature will help users track overnight vascular strain, helping users manage cardiovascular health during rest.

The high-stress alerts and mindfulness tracker will help users monitor stress in real-time and suggest breathing exercises or mood journaling.

AI-powered energy score: Gives a daily energy rating based on physical and mental data to help you manage your day better.

For fitness fans

Running coach: A new AI fitness assistant that ranks your fitness level from 1 to 10, offering real-time guidance and adaptive training plans.

Together feature upgrade: Now supports group running challenges, allowing you to compete with friends and family in-app.

Designed for ultimate comfort and performance

“Building upon the cushion-shaped design introduced with the Galaxy Watch Ultra, the Galaxy Watch8 series features the thinnest Galaxy Watch ever, “ Samsung said in a statement.

“It is now 11% slimmer thanks to a redesigned internal structure that improves component placement by 30%.”

The dynamic lug system ensures the watch moves naturally with your wrist, increasing both comfort and health tracking accuracy.

Samsung says that users can now enjoy a 50 per cent brighter display even in harsh sunlight.

With a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, one of the highest in any smartwatch.

“Whether you are jogging at dawn or biking under the midday sun, visibility remains crystal clear.”

It will also come fitted with a 3nm processor, which will deliver a smoother app performance and improved power efficiency. The watch also features dual-frequency GPS for more precise location tracking, ideal for those travelling, running or hiking.

The Galaxy Watch8 comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes in Graphite and Silver, offering a sleek, minimalist look. It goes for $349 (Sh45,090).

Galaxy Watch8 Classic, available in Black and White, features a rotating bezel and an added shortcut button for style with function. It goes for $499 (Sh64,470).

Galaxy Watch Ultra, Samsung’s most durable model, is built for the outdoors with military-grade toughness, the longest battery life, and comes in four titanium finishes, including Titanium Blue. It goes for $649 (83,850 )

For those seeking a discreet, lightweight health tracker, Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Ring, offering continuous wellness monitoring with up to 7 days of battery life.

Samsung says pre-orders start on 9th July in select markets, with global availability starting July 25, 2025.
